TUTORIAL #2

Description:
In this Tutorial, we are going to take the file we made
in Tuturial #1 and put it on the web. I know the index.html we made
earlier is not exactly complete, but it is a enough to put up, right
after this I will show you how to make the page a little more pretty,
yeah?

Step 1: First we need to find a place that will host our site. Now, there are many places to do this, some cost money, some don't, some support MySQL databases (often used for the "guestbook" feature) and php(server side scripting), some have lots of storage space and some are more modest, and the list goes on. The point is that there are many hosting sites with many ranges in options and features. So first we are going to orient our selves to freewebspace.net . Here you can search many different hosting sites and find one you like. For this site I am using freehostia.com. I found this host the best for me, they have plenty of room, support for MySQL and php, and is completely ad free. There are some limitations, like file size limits (this is why my music player is out of service, mp3's are too large to upload) and such. But until I get my own small server for myself, this will do just fine. So create an account on this site. It should give you default url. My default url is www.kursai.freehostia.com.

Step 2: Now all you have to do is upload your index.html and then go the the default url on you web server and voila, you should see your page. Now I wouldn't worry too much about somebody stumbling accross your incomplete page on accident. That would probably require somebody to find it in a search, and your site will prolly go unlisted for a long time. As testiment to this, www.casper911ca.com still has not been discovered by Google's crawlers, and its been up for a few months now. Now I must mention I found that your page must be called index.html (or index.php or whatever) . If it is called anything else you get a page called "index of /" and it lists the files you have uploaded on the host server. Thats not what you want. You want people to see your pretty html when they go to your site, right?

Okay so your site isn't soo pretty, I promise that I will tell you how to make your page prettier in the next tutorial. But if you are a little impatient, then I welcome you to check out this web site that I still use for reference all the time called w3schools and check out their html and xhtml tutorials. These "tuts" are going to be a billion times better then anything I'll have to show you and they even have little "try it yourself" scripts where you they give you a little snippet of code to play with. This is where I learned alot of my html and css.

Heres an Example of what you get if you dont call your file index.html
